We are a mental health charity that supports people across Merseyside by delivering fun, inclusive, and accessible football sessions alongside other social activities. We recognise that mental wellbeing is shaped by multiple factors, including physical activity, social connection, and peer support. For this reason, we use football as a powerful tool to promote mental wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support individuals in a positive and engaging environment.
Our sessions take place every Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm.
Join us to get active, connect with others who share similar experiences and take positive steps towards improving your mental wellbeing.
Headstart is a great place to socialise and maintain a better state of mind. It has given me a release from the struggles I have in my own head. Seeing new faces joining the programme has been amazing as well. I love listening to people's lives and how much the football sessions benefit them.

Who can attend the sessions?
We welcome everyone to our sessions, regardless of age, gender, background or football ability.
We’ll do a short mental wellbeing check-in to make sure our sessions are the right fit for you and that we can support you safely.
What if I can't afford the sessions?
If you are unable to afford the fee, please contact us. We are committed to making our sessions accessible and will discuss how we can support you.
What other activities do we do?
At the moment, we only offer one weekly football session. However, we’re planning to expand so we can provide more football sessions and other social activities in the future.
Can I bring anyone with me?
Participants are welcome to bring someone along for support, whether they want to watch or join in with the session.
How do I become a volunteer?
If you’d like to volunteer with us, simply get in touch with us. We’ll arrange a quick chat to learn more about your interests and discuss how you can get involved. We’re always excited to welcome new people to the team.
